This is an image of pure happiness. Me, in the foyer of Graceland. Happy happy heart! And it was decorated for Christmas! More happy heart! What does my family do with our Thanksgiving vacation? We go to Graceland!
Elvis has been a part of my life for a long time. When I was teaching my classroom transition music was Elvis. I played If I Can Dream to signal the beginning and end of reading and writing workshop. Most of my kids had no idea who Elvis was at the beginning of the year, but by the end of a year with me they sure as heck knew all about him. I even inspired a few fans. Inevitably, my students began to sing it each time we moved around the classroom and eventually asked to hear other songs. I loved the sound of their little voices singing Elvis in my classroom.
I hadn’t thought about those moments with my kids until I was walking around Graceland the other day. There is really no better song to sum up my thoughts about teaching, parenting, and life in general and I think these words are especially appropriate considering our world today. I think they speak for themselves.
Ahh, one more reason we get along. My kids know who Elvis is as we learn about him in Nevada (Las Vegas) and then again in Mississippi and Tennessee when we celebrate his birthday in January. I let the kids jam out to Elvis videos when we complete major assessments. He is an icon and one worthy to teach about!

Tupelo was awesome. I hope you can use some of my pics even if Moffat was missing. I have a feeling we will be back. I will mail you the museum guide from there.
