I couldn’t help but tear up a bit when I voted yesterday. It’s the history buff in me. The result of perspective and understanding of the moments that have lead me and every other voter to this moment. I felt the rush of all those moments.

The signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Seneca Falls.

Wyoming.

The 19th Amendment.

The 23rd Amendment.

The Voting Rights Act.

The 26th Amendment.

Individuals like Sojourner Truth and Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and LBJ and MLK.

And all the small moments too. The moments no one knows about.

How lucky we are to live in a country where the democratic process, for all of us, is the only way we have ever known. I know there are still hiccups. I know there are still individuals who have challenges in exercising their right to vote. But, think of how far we have come! It’s amazing and humbling and makes me proud.
